"Comrade Turtle and Vulture"  5mins (ANIMATION, 4 minutes, 11 seconds) This short animated film is a retelling of the classic “Tortoise and Hare” fable with a political twist. Set in the twilight years of the Tortoise, we see the tortoise laying on his back in the middle of the desert as a vulture circles high above him. The vulture swoops down from the sky and lands near the tortoise. He is surprised to see the tortoise is not dead and amused to discover that the tortoise has no objections to the certain death that is ahead of him. Loosely based on events that occurred during Mao Zedong's reign as leader of the Communist Party in China, this is a film that shows what can happen to the pawns in a great chess match played by politicians who are willing to sacrifice anyone for their own personal gains. Filmmaker Profile:  KHANG MAI Khang Mai, a former student at Piedmont Community College's Film and Video program, had his first short film air on UNC-TV's North Carolina Visions in 2001.
